Team DUI, an organization within The Pennsylvania DUI Association, is a network of state and local law enforcement agencies, government officials, and various persons and organizations dedicated to reducing the incidence of alcohol-related crashes in Pennsylvania. Educational efforts are made at high schools, colleges, and in the general public with activities like the Safety Bug. In addition, Team DUI supports other organizations like the Every 30 Minutes Program and S.A.D.D.

The Team DUI Law Enforcement Project refers to the federally funded "Targets of Opportunity" 403 program, which is testing various law enforcement and public education approaches to cut the number of drinking-and-driving crashes in Pennsylvania. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is one of only five states chosen to participate in this pilot program.

The 15-month operational phase of the Team DUI Law Enforcement Project, officially launched during a news conference at the Pennsylvania State Capitol on June 29, runs through September 2001. The project is sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and is being implemented by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

Funds will aid in helping increase the number of sobriety checkpoints, as well as enhance public-awareness activities in 14 counties: Allegheny, Berks, Bucks, Chester, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Luzerne, Montgomery, Northampton, Schuylkill, Westmoreland, and York.

An oversized pledge card was unveiled at the DUI Law Enforcement Project kickoff news conference on June 29, 2000. The pledge card will travel the state so that local officials can sign it to demonstrate their support for the enforcement of Pennsylvania DUI laws. Check back soon for a schedule of where and when the pledge can be found.
