MISSION

The Pennsylvania Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Association is a professional organization which is working to address the DUI problem in all of its many stages -- from prevention to enforcement up to, and including, adjudication and rehabilitation.

We provide information, direction, training and support with the purpose of working toward the elimination of impaired drivers and the harm that they can cause.

Through our efforts we create a healthier and safer environment for all people in the Commonwealth.

HISTORY

The Pennsylvania DUI Association was established in 1979 to take action in support of the initiatives being undertaken to encourage and facilitate the growth of safety programs in Pennsylvania. The Association is a non-profit, professional association which provides technical assistance and support to alcohol-highway safety professionals and other safety professionals representing the fields of highway safety.

Some of these services are available from the PA DUI Association under a technical assistance contract administered by PennDOT. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Bureau of Highway Safety and Traffic Engineering is responsible for Pennsylvania's Highway Safety program. This agency addresses the following types of highway safety issues: occupant protection (child safety seats, seat belts, and airbags), DUI awareness, pedestrian/bicycle/school bus safety, speeding, aggressive driving, etc.

Included in the Association's responsibilities are DUI Instructor certification workshops, CRN Evaluator certification workshops, Advanced workshops in CRN Evaluation and DUI Instruction, county DUI Coordinator training, management and technical assistance for county alcohol-highway safety programs, compilation and maintenance of the Alcohol Highway Safety Program directory for each county, and essentially any other activities directly related to alcohol-highway safety programs for professionals in Pennsylvania.

The Association is divided into four geographic regions to facilitate networking and information dissemination to all members of the Pennsylvania DUI Association.

What's New

TOP GUN Nominations Now Being Accepted

Our society expects a great deal from our law enforcement officers.  We ask them to be a counselor, teacher, medical technician, social worker, psychologist, mentor, negotiator, and then we expect them to enforce the laws.  The removal of offenders who drive under the influence is an integral part of the solution in the elimination of impaired drivers and the harm they can cause.  Law enforcement officers in Pennsylvania deserve a thank you for their work in reducing the threat of impaired drivers on our roads.

 Who is Eligible?

Police officers who have excelled in the apprehension of driving under the influence offenders during the 2009 calendar year.  The officers/troopers may be employed full or part time.

 How to Nominate

Click the link at the bottom of this article for a nomination form.  Be certain to complete the entire form. Police officers are welcome to self-nominate; however, nominations by the Chief of Police are suggested.  Please provide all information requested on the entry form.  Support material may be attached.  The material will not be returned.  The deadline for this entry is September 15, 2010.  Absolutely no entries will be accepted after this date.

 How Are Entries Evaluated?

The PA DUI Association Top Gun Award winners are selected by an independent panel of safety experts.  Entries are evaluated by a statistical method that considers several factors, including department size, total DUI arrests made by the department, hours worked by the officer, and number of DUI arrests made by the officer.

 How Are Winners Recognized?

The winners of the 2010 PA DUI Top Gun Award will be honored at the banquet ceremony on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at the PA DUI Association’s 31st Annual Meeting at the Seven Spring Mountain Resort, Champion, PA.
