KEYS FOR LIFE
The Keys
for Life
campaign is a new, positive way to
promote a sober lifestyle. The custom made keys with the
Pennsylvania SADD logo will serve as a reminder to “choose
sobriety” every time you leave your house, start your car or
use your keys. This program is unique to the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania and is not being utilized by any other SADD
organizations throughout the country.
SADD is the most highly recognized name of all youth groups
working to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle for youth. Be
part of this campaign and get the name AND message of SADD out
into the community. Almost everyone uses keys daily and this
positive reminder will be seen again and again.
SADD Chapters can purchase the key blanks to distribute to
members, who can then take the key to a hardware store and
have the keys cut, or the Association can come to your school,
or attend an event, and cut the keys on site.
The key blanks come in different styles to cover most key
types used today.
The Keys for Life
campaign is a low cost, easy project for any SADD
Chapter to participate in. Students, faculty and community
members can purchase the keys personally which would result in
a no cost program for the chapter.
SOBER BOWL
What is Sober Bowl?
Sober Bowl
is a 21 week anti-drug and alcohol campaign that targets
students of Junior and Senior High school age at the beginning
of the school year and building to a crescendo around the time
of the Super Bowl. By harnessing the momentum of the Super
Bowl, Sober Bowl extols a message that “it’s cool to be
sober.”
What does Sober Bowl
consist of?
Sober Bowl
consists of a unique three part ticket to the Sober Bowl that
enables students to compete for prizes by completing the
pledge to stay sober on the back of each ticket. Part of the
ticket stub is retained by the student for the length of the
campaign as proof of competition and must be shown before any
prizes can be awarded. The two remaining portions are used by
participating school districts for weekly drawings and the PA
DUI Association for grand prize drawings at the end of the
campaign. To reinforce the message of Sober Bowl, we provide
high impact graphic images in the form of banners and posters
to be displayed in heavy traffic areas of the competing
schools. Colorful hats and long sleeved T-shirts to be worn
and used as fundraising tools are provided for school groups
and Booster Clubs. In addition, a program of suggested
activities and fund raising vehicles is provided, along with
public service announcements to be used at school events. Each
competing school will receive a start-up kit that includes the
following:
1 banner
1 Floor Decal
10 posters
5 caps
30 T-shirts (15 Long sleeved and 15 Short sleeved)
1000 Sober Bowl Tickets
Activity Guide
Public Service Announcements
Why is Sober Bowl
needed?
Despite progress in reducing alcohol-impaired automobile
crashes, the underage drinking and drug use problem will not
be resolved until changes are made in children’s attitudes
toward drug and alcohol use. These attitudes are influenced
daily by adult oriented advertising and media. By associating
the Sober Bowl message with activities reflecting values
already important to children we employ the same advertising
technique to achieve the positive result of an
anti-consumption norm. Sports are named among teen’s favorite
activities. Sober Bowl’s message of positive reinforcement
tied to these events strengthens the child’s natural values
and establishes a foundation of behavior that will be more
resistant to outside influences and change.
Why is Sober Bowl
effective?
Numerous
studies have reported that repetition is the key to any
effective prevention program. The Sober Bowl kit will deliver,
at the very least 1240 exposures per student. In a school
building of 1000 students, that translates into a minimum of
1,240,000 impacts over the course of the campaign. With the
additional exposures of the Sober Bowl clothing worn by the
students, it is clear that Sober Bowl acts as an effective
countermeasure to the incidental exposure of our children to
adult oriented alcohol advertising each day. The incentive of
prizes for competing motivates student involvement while
reinforcing the idea that staying sober has rewards. The
colorful and fashionable quality of the shirts and hats make
participating fun and worthwhile.
How to compete in Sober Bowl
1. All students must receive a ticket to the Sober
Bowl
2. All students must have an opportunity to
participate in the Sober Bowl
3. School Districts must display Sober Bowl materials
4. Anti-underage drinking/DUI Public Service
Announcements must be made
during varsity athletic events
5. District Coordinators/Counselor should distribute
Sober Bowl materials to community centers, teen
hangouts, and participating organizations and
businesses
