Greetings SADD
Advisors!
The state office has
been real busy this fall. We've just
finished up another successful Youth
Leadership Training and Rally at the Capitol on
October 6-7 -- THANK YOU to everyone who
participated. Currently, we
are in the midst of final preparations
for the statewide SADD Conferences on November
18th and 19th.
Aside from all of that
activity, there's a lot of news happening on
state and national levels. Be sure to
read through this e-newsletter to get the
latest.
As always, we wish you
and your chapter well and look forward to
working with you throughout the 2008-2009 school
year.
Sincerely,
Felicity

Our goal at the
state SADD office is to serve you, our valued
SADD advisors. We've developed a short
survey to help us do just
that.
Click on the link in the left
margin above to complete the survey, and tell us
how we can better assist you in establishing and
sustaining your SADD chapter.

| PA SADD ON-LINE
PHOTO
ALBUM |
 We
are in the process of building an on-line photo
album website that will allow us to post
pictures from various SADD events and activities
to share with everyone.
All chapters are encouraged to email
pictures to our office for
consideration for inclusion in the photo
album. You can send those pictures to Barb
Zortman at bzortman@padui.org. Be
sure to put 'SADD Pictures' in the subject
line, and have them in a jpeg format.
Click on the link in the left margin and
check out our progress so far. And don't
forget to send in those pictures! It's a
perfect opportunity to showcase some of your
chapter's
activity. |
| PA SADD STUDENT OF
THE YEAR |
Nominate a SADD student who
you feel has truly made a difference in
his/her school and/or community. Someone
who has gone above and beyond, and who you know
will represent Pennsylvania well in the
2009-2010 school year.
Visit the link posted in the left margin of
this e-newsletter, read the criteria carefully
and be sure to nominate the student
you know who is willing and able to
fullfill all of the requirements and
responsibilities that come with
the appointment. |
Just a reminder to encourage you and all
the students in your chapter to sign up for SADD
National's e-newsletter The
SADDvocate. Visit the www.sadd.org homepage
to join.
There is always a lot of useful
information on National's website, so be sure to
visit it frequently.

| LOWERING THE LEGAL
DRINKING
AGE. |
Most of you are aware of
the Amythest Initiative involving a push to
lower the minimum drinking age in
Pennsylvania. If you're unfamiliar,
take a moment to visit the website at www.amethystinitiative.org.
It's always a good idea to know what the 'other
side' is up to!
This is not a new issue, but unfortunately
one that is often discussed. Please
click our link (MLDA 21) on the "Quick
Links" of this newsletter to view the Pacific
Institute for Research &
Evaluation's official
report. The great thing about the
PIRE report is that it will give you the answers
you'll need to skillfully debate those who
have, what they feel to be, valid arguments
for lowering the drinking age. You'll be
amazed at the wealth of information available in
this report.
As teachers, you come in contact with teens
everyday and we are certain that you have had to
address this issue with your students. The
findings in this report will prove to be a
superb educational tool for you and your
students. |
