special two-day advocacy training program (July

National Conference in Washington, DC. The

key role during the national conference
preparing conference participants to advocate
for SADD on Capitol Hill. SPEAKS students
will return home with skills they can put to
work advocating for SADD on the state and local
levels.

Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year in high
school.

Many of you are familiar
with the "Full Apologies" campaign developed by
Drug-Free Pennsylvania. If not, visit the
site at www.fullapologies.com. The
ad agency (Neiman Group) responsible for
developing the Full Apologies campaign and
would like it take a grassroots approach
to advance the campaign to a new level, and they
would like to invite the PA SADD Chapters to get
involved.
They would like to install
up to five parking lot signs in different
schools across the state. This sign
resembles the blue handicapped signage, but
instead is red and it reads "Reserved for
Drunk Drivers Who Hurt Someone," and would
be placed at the fartherest parking spot in the
student parking lot. The parking
space would be painted red, as well. In
addition, static cling stickers to go on
bathroom mirrors with a message reading "You
drank. You drove. Then hurt someone. Forget
about looking in the
mirror."
Both the signs and
stickers would be supplied (and installed) at no
cost to you. Neiman Group will pay for
installation as long as permission is given by
the high school.

your chapter is interested in participating, or

PARENTS WHO HOST, LOSE THE
MOST |
ATTENTION DAUPHIN COUNTY
CHAPTERS
You will soon be receiving a
supply of information cards to distribute in
your community as part of a
statewide effort by PA SADD to get the word out
to parents (and anyone over 21) that it is
illegal to provide or purchase alcohol for
anyone under the age of 21 years. "Parents
Who Host, Lose the Most" is a campaign designed
to heighten awareness particularly over the
prom/graduation season.
If you are in another county
and would like more information on this
program please contact Barb Zortman at bzortman@padui.org.
Those of you who live in
Dauphin County will s message and also reminding
patrons of the underage drinking hotline
(see article
below). |
|
Just a reminder that this
toll-free service exists, and to encourage your
chapter to assist in getting the word out to
peers and the community.
For those of you who are
unfamiliar with the program, this is how it
works: Anyone wanting to
report underage drinking can call
1-888-UNDER21. Calls remain anonymous
unless the caller chooses to identify
him/herself. The call goes directly to
dispatch at the Pennsylvania State
Police. Once the location is
identified, the PSP dispatcher
will notify the appropriate municipal
police department (or state police
station) to
investigate.
The purpose of the
hotline is three-fold; 1) to report underage
drinking parties (planned or in the process),
2) to report licensed establishments that
are serving underage patrons, and 3) to report
adults purchasing or providing alcohol
to anyone under the age of
21.
If you would like a supply
of materials to distribute, please call our
office (717-238-4354) or email Barb Zortman at
bzortman@padui.org.
